ÖH Social Fund
All students who are members of the ÖH and find themselves in a particular financial emergency have the opportunity to receive one-off support from this social fund every 12 months. One-time support means a one-time financial support per calendar year, whereby (after a positive assessment) there must be 12 months between one payment and the next!
These emergencies can be caused by: suddenly increased housing costs, costs for studies, expenses for the care and support of your own children, one-off expenses for medical treatment or other emergency situations that have arisen through no fault of your own. Prerequisites for support from one of the funds are that the student is socially needy within the meaning of the guidelines, does not live with their parents, does not receive a study grant and can provide evidence of sufficient academic success. It is important to enclose all necessary documents (copies) with the application, as this will speed up processing. Incomplete applications will be rejected. The application should be sent to the Social Department of the Federal Student Union, Taubstummengasse 7-9/ 4th floor, 1040 Vienna.
Due to the high volume of applications at times, the processing of applications may take a little longer than desired. However, we make every effort to process each application as quickly as possible. Decisions are sent automatically by post. The funds for this social fund are provided in equal parts by the Federal Representation of the ÖH, the Ministry of Science and the Students' Union of the university or teacher training college at which the student is enrolled. Since this year, students at universities of applied sciences can also submit an application. If you have any questions, please contact your social department at your university or university college of teacher education or write an email to sozialfonds@oeh.ac.at.
The social fund advisors of the Federal Austrian Students' Union are always available on Tuesday (from 10 am to 12 pm) and Thursday (from 2 pm to 4 pm) on 01/310 88 80 22 or 01/310 88 80 45. You can download the application form (in German or English) here. Students who receive support from the ÖH Social Fund can obtain a cultural pass from the Department of Social Policy. The culture pass enables you to visit numerous cultural institutions free of charge. Because even people with financial difficulties have a right to art and culture. You can find more detailed information at www.hungeraufkunstundkultur.at and at the Department of Social Policy.
ÖH Helpline
Due to this current situation, the ÖH Federal Representation has decided to launch the “ÖH Helpline” project in cooperation with the Association for Psychotherapy, which is organized as follows: anonymous telephone counselling by trained staff from the Association for Psychotherapy. A helpline has been set up under the number 01/585 33 33, which students can contact if they are suffering from excessive demands or psychological complaints, for example, and need help. The helpline is staffed by specially trained employees of the Association for Psychotherapy and is thus intended to provide an initial anonymous point of contact.
Following the telephone consultation, there are various options for further counseling and/or psychological support tailored to the current situation. Counselling by the Social Department of the ÖH Federal Representation In the event of excessive demands due to studying, organizational or financial difficulties, without accompanying psychological complaints, those affected are referred to the Social Department of the ÖH Federal Representation to receive appropriate expert help.
Possibilities for further counseling: If there is a more serious concern, there is also the possibility of arranging an initial personal counseling session with trained employees of the Association for Psychotherapy and discussing specific problems. It is then possible to be referred for psychological support. Pilot project peer group therapy For many less serious problems, students are already helped by having a space in which they can talk to other affected people. In order to facilitate and promote this direct help from students for students, free group therapy sessions are offered by peers in cooperation with the Psychology Student Council at the University of Vienna. Students who have taken part in group therapy can then train as peers themselves and work on the project.
Peer group therapy is initially a pilot project in Vienna, which will be extended to the whole of Austria if the feedback from students is positive. Therapy If the telephone consultation or a counseling session reveals a serious mental illness or depression, it is possible to obtain funding for therapy via the Psychotherapy Fund of the ÖH Bundesvertretung. We want to help students who would otherwise have to suffer from long waiting times in a non-bureaucratic way and without long waiting times.
Helpline consultation hours: Monday 15:00-18:00, Wednesday 16:00-18:00, Thursday: 16:00-18:00
