Content:

In Feldenkrais group work (awareness through movement), the participants themselves go on a journey and explore their self-organization. Movement sequences on the mat are guided by verbal instructions. In the changed relationship to gravity, the usual postural muscles are allowed to relax. This allows individual patterns to be discovered and new movement contexts to be explored experimentally. The results are a better perception of the body, a loosening of structures and improved coordination, which can then be transferred to everyday life and instrumental playing.

Background to the Feldenkrais Method:

Moshé Feldenkrais (1904-1984) was a physicist and engineer who researched human behavioral physiology and movement mechanics. His method makes use of the plasticity and learning ability of the human nervous system. He recognized the interaction of movement, perception, thinking and feeling.

Through the Feldenkrais method, people learn to improve their self-organization in such a way that they can implement their own plans with minimal effort and high efficiency.

This gives them the opportunity to get out of practiced but often unsuitable or even harmful movement patterns. For musicians, this means an increase in freedom of movement, stamina and well-being on the instrument. This improves the quality of music-making, the lightness gained when playing counteracts rapid exhaustion and expands technical possibilities. The result is a free development of sound and an expansion of the range of musical expression.
