Individual breathing and movement work (instrumental studies)

LV 13.5021, 13.5022, 13.5023, 13.5024, 13.5025, 13.5026

Elective (compulsory) subject (elective area A), individual lessons

The aim of the course is to improve the physical and mental foundations of music-making. Students will work on posture, movement and tension sequences as well as breathing. If necessary, help will be offered to overcome problem situations such as pain when playing and to improve stress management.

Registration is only possible on the waiting list via mdw-online.
Early registration is strongly recommended, as the number of places is limited. The urgency of the request and the order of registration will determine when places are allocated.

Due to the very limited number of study places, only study places for students from the respective dean's office can be made available. Therefore, no postgraduate or Erasmus students can be accepted.

The course is held by several lecturers with different focuses:

Lecturer:

Andrea Bold

Simple movements and awareness exercises create an awareness of your own breathing and playing movements. By relaxing, connecting, centering and strengthening the body, a balance of strength and lightness gradually develops in which efficiency, freedom from pain and the joy of playing can be (re)found. Qi Gong and Ideokinesis form the main focus of the work.

Katrin Fesel

Rita Kautschitz

Our body feels, acts and experiences. This process is reflected functionally in our breathing rhythm and in our movements. How much freedom of movement do we have? How much space is available for our breathing? Where do tensions show up?

Verena Kircher
Individual care and targeted support for musicians: Working together to identify the causes of challenges and develop suitable solutions. Whether it's the prevention of pain, mental blockages or pedagogical interest - the aim is to fill your personal “toolbox” with versatile aids.

Coretta Kurth

What can I do against nervousness and stress, against tension and pain when playing? How can I feel comfortable with my instrument in every situation?  In our lessons we look for ways to achieve this through breathing and body work with and without the instrument, through relaxation and mental exercises.

Niko Maly

My lessons help musicians to strengthen their self-awareness. Through targeted movement exercises and an examination of their body and technique, they learn to improve their playing and release stress-related blockages. The focus is on optimizing movement coordination and economy in order to reduce physical discomfort and promote relaxation.

Veronika Morscher

The focus of my teaching is the interface between body, breath, voice and mind. Through a resource- and needs-oriented approach, I would like to support musicians in their important work as music creators in recognizing their many skills and strengths, reflecting on their needs, goals and limits and, through perception, breathing and mindfulness exercises, stage work, yoga and body awareness as well as self-esteem strengthening, accompany them holistically in finding their (personal and professional) path in harmony with their needs and personality.

Thomas Lachtner

Efficiency and performance through a friendly approach to yourself.

Be present in your body, be aware of your needs and limits and learn to deal with them in a healing and benevolent way.

Recognize movement habits and, if necessary, give the system the opportunity to reorganize, supported by perception exercises, experienced anatomy or the embodiment of inner images.

Sabine Skopal

My lessons offer the opportunity to consciously experience the basics of one's own breathing, posture, movement and fine motor skills on the instrument, to correct any deficiencies in these areas or to make good use of existing resources and develop them further.

Monika Witzany

My lessons take place in individual work and in the group: Feldenkrais group.
A particular concern in individual work is working directly on the instrument, because this is the only way to integrate efficient and pain-free self-organization into the game for sustainable success.
In the group, people learn to use the Feldenkrais Method to improve their self-organization in such a way that they can implement their own plans with minimal effort and a high degree of efficiency.
