ÖH Social Fund
For all students who are ÖH members and are in a particular financial emergency, there is the option to receive a one-time support from this Social Fund every 12 months. A one-time support means a single financial aid per calendar year, where there must be a 12-month gap between one payment and the next (after positive assessment).
These emergencies may arise from: sudden increased housing costs, study-related expenses, costs for caring for and supporting children, one-time medical treatment expenses, or other situations created through no fault of the student.
Requirements for receiving support from the fund: The student must be socially needy according to the guidelines, not living with parents, not receiving study grants, and demonstrating sufficient academic progress. It's important to submit all necessary documents (in copy) with the application to speed up the process. Incomplete applications will be rejected. The application must be directed to the Social Department of the Federal ÖH, Taubstummengasse 7-9 / 4th floor, 1040 Vienna.
Due to high application volumes during certain periods, the processing of applications may take longer than desired. However, we are doing our best to process every application as quickly as possible. Decisions will be sent automatically by post.
The funds for this Social Fund come from the Federal ÖH, the Ministry of Science, and the Student Union of the University or Pedagogical University where the student is enrolled. Since this year, students from universities of applied sciences can also apply.
For questions, contact your Social Department at your university or pedagogical university or email sozialfonds@oeh.ac.at.
The Social Fund Advisors of the Federal ÖH are available every Tuesday (from 10:00-12:00) and Thursday (from 14:00-16:00) at 01/310 88 80 22 or 01/310 88 80 45. You can download the application form (in German or English) here. Students who receive support from the ÖH Social Fund can obtain a Cultural Pass from the Social Policy Department, allowing them to visit various cultural institutions with free entry.
ÖH Helpline
Due to the current situation, the Federal ÖH has decided to launch the “ÖH-Helpline” project in collaboration with the Association for Psychotherapy. The helpline provides anonymous telephone counseling by trained personnel. Students can reach the helpline at 01/585 33 33 if they feel overwhelmed or have psychological complaints and need help. The helpline is staffed by specially trained therapists and aims to be an initial anonymous contact point.
Following the telephone counseling, there are different options for further counseling and/or psychological support tailored to the situation.
Social Counseling Department of the Federal ÖH
For students overwhelmed by their studies, organizational or financial difficulties, without accompanying psychological complaints, they will be referred to the Social Department of the Federal ÖH for further expert assistance.
Further Counseling Options:
If a more serious issue is identified, an initial personal counseling session with trained therapists can be arranged to discuss specific problems. Afterward, psychological care may be provided.
Peer Group Therapy Pilot Project
For many less severe problems, students find it helpful to have a space to exchange experiences with others facing similar challenges. To enable and promote this direct help from students for students, free group therapy sessions are offered in cooperation with the Psychology Student Representation at the University of Vienna. Students who participate in group therapy may also train as peers and contribute to the project.
Therapy
If telephone counseling or a counseling session reveals a serious mental illness or depression, the student may receive funding for therapy through the Psychotherapy Fund of the Federal ÖH. This aims to help students avoid long waiting times for therapy.
Helpline Counseling Hours:
Monday 15:00-18:00
Wednesday 16:00-18:00
Thursday 16:00-18:00
