Certificate in Advanced Studies in Music Physiology

 

This part-time continuing education course for music school teachers and performing musicians has been offered since summer semester 2017.
It provides comprehensive information on how to deal constructively with the physical and psychological demands and stresses of professional music-making. The course provides up-to-date scientific and practical professional knowledge from the fields of music physiology and music psychology as fundamental basic knowledge. A special aspect is the practical applicability. The specific aim is to integrate suitable prevention strategies into the music education of children and young people.

Target group

This course is aimed at both performing musicians and teachers at music education institutions who have a degree in a subject-specific bachelor's or diploma course or an equivalent qualification. The content of the course is not aimed at physiotherapists or doctors, but at musicians/music teachers.


Structure and organization

The course lasts 2 semesters, the dates of the upcoming course can be found under Details

The content is divided into 3 modules:

  1.     Physical basics of making music, body awareness and body training, experienced anatomy on the instrument

  2.     Practicing and learning techniques, applied music psychology

  3.     Stress management, mental training, communication


Admission requirements

The basis for admission to the course is an

  •     aptitude interview

  •     curriculum vitae

  •     Letter of motivation

  •     Proof of completion of a subject-specific (music) Bachelor's, Master's or diploma degree or proof of an equivalent qualification

The course takes place with a minimum of 15 participants.

Certification

After successful completion of all examinations, graduates receive a certificate that entitles them to work as qualified consultants in music education institutions.
