Pawel Markowicz, MA BA

 

Pawel Markowicz has established himself on concert stages both in Austria and abroad thanks to his extraordinary versatility, which has led him to collaborate with musicians such as Andreas Ottensamer, Igudesman & Joo, Helene Fischer, Ensemble Kontrapunkte and Thomas Hampson. In 2018 he became répétiteur of the Concert Association of the Vienna State Opera Chorus, and since 2021 he serves as assistant to the choirmasters at the Salzburg Festival. Symphony for Solo Piano, his debut album as pianist-arranger of Philip Glass’s Symphony No. 8, was released on the composer’s label Orange Mountain Music in 2020, reaching #2 on the Austrian iTunes Classic Charts.

Recent highlights include the Austrian premiere of Glass’s Piano Concerto No. 2 at Wiener Konzerthaus, the Hungarian Premiere of Glass’ Concerto for Two Pianos and Orchestra and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue at Disney’s Fantasia Live in Concert. Other invitations have led him to the Musikverein Wien, Congress Center Villach, Wien Modern and Hitomi Memorial Hall Tokyo. He frequently played orchestral piano with the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marin Alsop.

Born in Cracow and growing up in Austria, he studied piano, conducting, composition and music education in Vienna, Graz and the USA. Among his most influential teachers are Roland Batik, Hyung-ki Joo, Imola Joó (piano), Johannes Prinz, Alois Glaßner, Georg Mark (conducting) as well as Conrad Pope and Ertuğrul Sevsay (orchestration).

Pawel Markowicz is a highly demanded assistant TV director, arranger, orchestrator and editor working with international composers and music publishers. 2021 he was appointed lecturer for score playing at the Department of Conducting.
