Sustainability Coordination Office
The mdw is conscious of its environmental responsibilities and commits itself to the respectful use of environmental, economic, social, as well as artistic and scientific resources across its teaching, science/research, development and exploration of the arts (EEK), and in its operational organization. Sustainability is understood here holistically in the sense of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This way, the mdw aims to contribute to the meaningful and equitable development of society, both today and into the future. With the implementation of an Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), the mdw is committed to an operational environmental management system and to regular audits with a view to enhancing environmental performance.
The mdw is a member of the Alliance of Sustainable Universities and participates in interdisciplinary and cross-university projects. The internal and external university transformation processes and established co-operations that stem from this membership present great potential. Against this background, the mdw seeks to use the results and the successful networking to actively pursue the goals of sustainable development together with the other Austrian universities.
As an educational institution for the performative arts of music, theatre, and film, the mdw provides students with future-oriented perspectives and competencies in the sense of a "future literacy" for the creative shaping of a livable future.
A coordination unit located in the Department for Organizational Development and Social Responsibility acts as an interface for sustainability at the mdw.
As a coordinating body, it has a support function in the implementation of strategies, projects, and events in the field of sustainability. In addition to the controlled networking of all relevant mdw units and areas, it promotes and structures institutional communication internally and externally by virtue of its strategic location within the Vice-Rectorate. As a link between the mdw project groups, such as the Senate Working Group on Climate Change in Research, Art, and Education, the mdw platform green mdw, and the Vice-Rectorate, she supports the implementation of the principle of sustainability at mdw.
