2. Crediting of Examinations/Coursework Not Taken at the mdw

In general, applications to have examinations/coursework from degree programs at other postsecondary institutions recognised and credited should be submitted as soon as possible upon commencement of your studies at the mdw.

Required Materials

  • A copy of the official document that shows one has passed the exam/course.
  • A description of the content (learning outcomes) of the exam/course.
  • A description of the course according to its curriculum at the institution at which it was held.
  • For internships or artistic/academic activities outside of the mdw as defined in § 78 subpara 4 of the Austrian Universities Act (UG): a description of the activity along with confirmation of participation from its organiser.
  • We request that you provide translations of documents that are not in German insofar as the originals of these documents are not in English. Information on the certification of foreign documents can be found in the overview provided by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (Beglaubigung von ausländischen Urkunden). When having translations done in Austria, please use a court-certified translator. The official list of court-certified translators can be found here: https://www.gerichtsdolmetscher.at/Verzeichnis.
  • In some cases, the Director of Studies may request an expert opinion. This means that a teacher at mdw is commissioned to determine whether there are significant differences between the examination (course) that is to be recognised and the examination (course) at mdw. If such an expert opinion is requested, it must be enclosed with the application as well.

3. Credit Recognition Applications – Deadlines

Please submit your credit recognition applications in a timely manner!

Decisions on applications will be made by two months after their receipt in accordance with § 78 subpara 8 of the UG.

Should you receive a negative decision and decide to submit a complaint to the Supreme Administrative Court, the time period within which a new decision must be made is six months.
