Educational goals

As music today is subject to constant change and has been influenced by various historical, political and artistic factors, boundaries have spread and as a result new ideas, styles, techniques and approaches have also been developed, which above all also place new demands on education.

The instrumental studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna offer strongly oriented training in the artistic field of the concert subject and guarantee the highest level of performance and training for this music study.

Admission requirements

Admission requirements include technical and artistic competence for the chosen instrument, physical aptitude, knowledge of music theory and appropriate knowledge of German.

Please note that registration for the entrance examination is only possible online at: https://www.mdw.ac.at/1229/ . Registration via this application is necessary for every applicant!

Study program

The diploma programme is divided into two study sections. The first part of the programme comprises 8 semesters. The second stage comprises 4 semesters and offers a choice of different profiles. Each study section is completed with the completion of the respective diploma examination.
After completing the second diploma examination, the mdw University awards graduates the academic degree "Magistra/Magister artium".
