Legal Aspects of Studies
Since 1 January 2004, university studies have been subject to the rules detailed in Part II, Chapter 2 of the Austrian Universities Act of 2002 (UG 2002). This law superseded the University Studies Act (UniStG), which had also applied to artistic university studies since 1998, and it accorded the individual universities certain latitudes for setting up their own rules. As a consequence, the currently valid version of the mdw’s University Statues (announced on 15 June 2005) contains rules on studies and examinations that are valid exclusively for the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The Statues are therefore to be interpreted as supplementing UG 2002, in combination with which they form the legal basis for university studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
Further special information can be found in the Austrian Universities Act of 2002, in the mdw’s University Statutes, in the curricula, and in the information sheets available in the Studies Center as well as in the corresponding department offices.
The staff of the Studies Center are available to help you with their expertise on administrative matters relating to your studies, and they will be glad to provide you with information regarding applicable rules and regulations.
