On January 16, 2024, the third benefit concert for Ukraine at the mdw took place at the Joseph Haydn Hall. The event was a heartfelt gesture of gratitude to the mdw community for its continuous support of Ukrainian refugee students and aimed to emphasize the ongoing necessity of this assistance.
The concert was an inspiring musical journey into the modern and captivating world of Ukraine, providing an opportunity for Ukrainians living in Vienna to connect with their own identity.
The program featured works by renowned Ukrainian masters such as Barvinsky, Skoryk, and Sylvestrov, as well as pieces by composers of the younger generation like Almaschi and Reshetilov. Particularly notable were the premieres of two young female composers who, like other Ukrainian musicians, had fled before the war and were now studying at the mdw.
The musical performances were complemented by impressive video installations by Viktor Andriichenko, featuring works from the Kyiv 23 Biennale in Vienna.
The realization of the project would not have been possible without the support of the Vice-Rectorate for Studing Affairs and Barbara Strack-Hanisch personally. A heartfelt gratitude goes to all the participating artists who rejoiced with us over the donations received, as well as to everybody who prepared the premieres. The solidarity with art, young artists, and the fate of our young talents was palpable that evening. The mdw remains committed to spreading hope and assistance through the power of music.
