- Representation and advancement of the subject in research/development and opening up of the arts and teaching
- Participation in the fulfilment of research tasks/development and appreciation of the arts within their own department
- The independent delivery of courses and holding of examinations
- Teaching duties include the preparation of courses and the supervision of the students within these courses
- Supervision of students, especially diploma and doctoral students, and of young scientists and artists
- Participation in organisational and administrative tasks as well as in evaluation processes.
- Ensuring the development and continued education of the scientific/artistic and general university staff, for whom the university professor is responsible as line manager.
B Associate professors (after attaining the qualification, § 27 KollV)
have the right to use the university's facilities to carry out autonomous academic/artistic teaching in the same way as university professors, to pursue academic work/development and appreciation of the arts, and to supervise and assess academic/artistic work.
Other tasks include, in particular:
- The independent performance of research work and participation in the fulfilment of research tasks/development and appreciation of the arts within their own department
- The independent delivery of courses and holding of examinations
- The supervision of students, especially diploma and doctoral students, and of young scientists and artists
- Participation in organisational and administrative tasks as well as in evaluation processes.

Senior Lecturers have to fulfil their work obligations primarily in teaching.
Independent teaching activities (conducting courses) also include preparing for courses, supervising students during courses, especially during class performances, administering examinations, participating in evaluation processes, and administrative activities associated with the performance of teaching duties.
The supervision of students encompasses the supervision of scientific and artistic work (written examination papers, bachelor's theses, diploma and master's (Magister) theses, dissertations). The necessary qualifications for supervisors are set out in the section of the statutes entitled "Study Law". University professors and associate professors, in particular, are required to supervise diploma and doctoral students as well as early-career academics and artists.
Participation in organisational and administrative tasks also includes the organisation and participation in internal and inter-institutional events such as symposia, conferences and cooperations of the department. In addition to fulfilling their own research tasks/tasks for the development of the arts, all groups are expected to participate in research projects of the department/projects for the development of the arts. The performance of organisational tasks includes, in particular, participation in organisational (committee) work, for example in the Senate, in Study Commissions, or other commissions and working groups of the Senate or the department.
E Project staff (§ 28 KollV)
Project employees are employees temporarily working in third-party funded projects. As long as there are no regulations on the part of the sponsors, project staff members can, with their consent, also be called upon to participate in courses within the scope of their working hours and be entrusted to hold courses independently, or additional teaching work may be agreed upon on the basis of the teaching assignment rates.

The exclusive performance of teaching tasks, including preparation for courses, supervision of students during courses, administering examinations on courses, participation in evaluation processes, as well as the administrative activities associated with the performance of teaching tasks.

General information
Working hours
The normal working week for academic and artistic university staff (with the exception of lecturers and student employees) shall in principle be 40 hours (for full-time employment).
Unless otherwise stipulated in a Works Agreement or by the University for important business reasons, the beginning and end of the daily working hours may be chosen freely (flexitime).
However, the daily working time shall be arranged in such a way that the weekly working time does not exceed 48 hours on average within a 12-month period and 60 hours in any individual week within this period. Employees are required to record their working hours in accordance with instructions.
Obligation of attendance
The above-mentioned tasks and responsibilities shall be fulfilled by the academic and artistic staff members personally at the university (place of work) in accordance with the requirements of university operations.
With regard to the performance of tasks of research and development and development of the arts, university professors, assistant professors and associate professors shall be bound to the university only insofar as the cooperation with other university members requires it and where other university tasks would otherwise be impaired. Even where research tasks or activities concerning the development of the arts are not location dependent, the university as a place of work must remain accessible.

Please note in particular
- Courses must be held in the teaching weeks determined by the Senate for each academic year, which means an average of 15 units per semester. It is not permissible to postpone classes during the holiday periods, even make up for classes that have been cancelled.
- One semester hour comprises 45 minutes.
- Classes must be organised in advance in consultation with the Dean of Studies and the departments (rooms, timetables, provision of necessary equipment, etc...)
- The holding of a course as a block course is only possible upon application, if there are important reasons and with the agreement of the Dean of Studies or the Department Board.
- Unless there are classroom requirements such as excursions and lectures, classes may only be held on the premises of the university. Under no circumstances it is permitted to give individual artistic lessons at home or in other rooms outside the university.
- On Sundays and public holidays, lessons may only be given with the permission of the Rector.
- Certificates of courses and examinations must be issued as soon as possible, but no later than four weeks after the performance to be assessed has been completed.
