The mdw took 4th place worldwide in the QS World University Ranking 2025. As in previous years, the mdw achieved a top position among the world's top 5 universities in the field of "Performing Arts".

Entrance Exams for Performance Studies

Applicants who are interested in the Instrumental Studies (Performance) of all orchestral instruments, Guitar or Saxophone, can register for the entrance exams until 2 April 2025.

Please note: These study programmes have been converted to Bachelor's/Master's programmes!

The mdw offers various support and counselling services for students and mdw members with study-specific difficulties or personal conflict situations and provides information about barrier-free studying and teaching. Confidential, anonymous & free of charge!

Applications for the 5th International Helmut Deutsch Lied Competition

Singers can now apply for the 5th HD Lied Competition! What makes it special: It is dedicated exclusively to songs by Austrian composers.

Open Call: Sound As Score Composer Lab 

In the SaS Composer Lab, composers have the opportunity to explore new ways of composing and interpreting with audio scores!

Call for Papers: isaResearch Summer School 2025

Don`t miss your chance to present and discuss your research project in an interdisciplinary framework at the mdwCampus.

The isaResearch Summer School for Early Stage Researchers takes place from 21 – 23 July 2025.

This year's theme: Sound, Politics, and the Urban Laboratory.

The isaCommunity (21-27 July 2025) combines creative work with social commitment. In exciting workshops with renowned artists, concert formats will be developed and brought to the big stage.

Solidarity with the University of Arts in Belgrade

As part of the European Universities Alliance IN.TUNE, the mdw stands in unwavering solidarity with the students of the University of Arts in Belgrade and the academic community in Serbia.

We support their legitimate demands for democratic values, social justice, and academic freedom and are deeply concerned about the risks they face while advocating for their rights.

Admission for the artistic doctorate (Doctor Artium Programme)

The artistic doctorate at the mdw's Artistic Research Center is dedicated to innovative artistic work. The focus is on the students' own artistic practice in the context of artistic research.
 

Applicants can register for the admission exam from 14 February to 29 April 2024. 

Preis

Werner Pirchner Prize 2025

The state of Tyrol and the mdw are once again organising an international competition for wind-instruments.

It offers musicians up to the age of 30 a platform to present themselves artistically and to be able to compare themselves on an international level.

Applications are now open and will be accepted until 2 May 2025!

HRS4R – Human Resources Strategy for Researchers

Since 2020 the mdw has engaged in the Human Resources Management Audit (HRS4R) to enhance the university’s working conditions and recruitment processes. This ongoing initiative has resulted in a Revised Action Plan and a Recruiting Policy.

With the two one-act operas from Giacomo Puccini's Il Trittico, which premiered in 1918, the Department of Vocal Studies and Music Theatre's annual production features works that are both grand opera and psychological miniatures.
