Early Music in Instrumental Studies

The BA and MA programmes (IGP and concert performance) offer various opportunities to engage intensively with historical instruments and performance practice from the 17th to 19th centuries. Information can be found in the PDF brochure.

This includes individual or group lessons on historical instruments, as well as chamber music, baroque orchestra, historical dance and theoretical subjects. Depending on availability, the following historical instruments are available:

• Baroque violin, baroque viola, baroque cello, viola da gamba, viola d’amore

• Transverse flute, baroque oboe/classical oboe, recorder, baroque bassoon/dulcian, historical clarinet/chalumeau

• Baroque trombone, baroque trumpet, natural horn

• Baroque guitar/vihuela, lute/theorbo, harpsichord, fortepiano

The various institutes at the mdw have a pool of historical instruments and replicas available for loan (subject to availability!).

• Some courses have early registration deadlines for an audition and aptitude interview.

• Contacting us in good time gives you the opportunity to obtain information. (Recommended: enquire one semester in advance!)

• The availability of teachers (KE/KG) must be clarified.

• The availability of a (loan) instrument must be clarified in good time if you do not have your own instrument.
