‘Tricky Moments’
Webtool for diversity attuned teaching
How can teaching be rendered a safe place for everybody?
What defines good teaching at a university of the arts?
What specific situations of teaching and learning exist at mdw?
How to critically reflect personal practices of teaching?
Primarily addressing teachers but also students, „Tricky Moments“ is a webtool that intends to encourage and stimulate the development and adoption of competencies in gender and diversity in personal practices of teaching and learning. It presents different angles for reflecting various experiences of teaching and learning and provides ideas to act on in relation to diversity-attuned didactic practices.
Tricky moments
Teaching situations are embedded in societal and institutional structures and therefore affected by power relations. Our Tricky Moments depict fictional teaching situations inspired by actual experiences of teachers and students. They invite us to become consciously aware of our personal situations of teaching and learning and to critically reflect upon them.
Ideas to Act on
They incorporate firsthand experiences, practical instructions, checklists and links to recommended guidelines and collections of tools already available.
They invite you to..
- reflect upon your (subconscious) expectations,
- experiment with a multitude of design possibilities concerning class content and instructional setting,
- become aware of the fact that you as a teacher are setting an example,
- acquire and impart gender- and diversity-specific knowledge in order to expand your personal potential to act,
- acknowledge the hierarchies as well as the mechanisms of inclusion and exclusion present in university culture and the classroom setting.
