In this issue of mdw Magazine, we explore just why taking inspiration from nature for artistic work has a long tradition—and at how ecological themes and artistic practice are being thought about in combination more and more often as awareness of climate change and environmental issues grows. We also turn our gazes toward the future and ask how new forms of creativity can arise at the interface between the arts, research, and ecology.
A look back across the first four years of our structured doctoral programme shows just how significantly it has contributed to the fortification of the mdw’s general academic doctoral programme. Actor Katharina Haudum, the Max Reinhardt Seminar’s new intimacy coordinator, provides an impression of her important work and explains how intimate scenes are choreographed on a film set together with the directorial level and actors. And to conclude the present Arnold Schönberg Year, we feature a new critical edition of Variations on a Recitative op. 40, Schönberg’s sole completed work for organ.
I wish you an enriching read!
