The Open Access University Press of the mdw
mdwPress is the open access academic publisher of the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. With this press, the mdw aims to increase the visibility of its research in all its diversity and contribute to the development of a global, resource-saving open access infrastructure. Free from commercial motives, mdwPress makes research results freely accessible and reusable for the interested public.
The quality and academic freedom of mdwPress are ensured by an academic board whose regularly rotating internal and external members are characterized by distinguished academic achievements. Each proposal for a publication project, including a suggestion for the peer reviewing procedure of the entire manuscript, is discussed and determined by this board.
mdwPress is open to all academic publication formats, including journals and innovative formats, and welcomes inter- and transdisciplinarity. mdwPress complies with the current technical and ethical standards for publishers and participates in the further development of these standards. Where necessary, mdwPress relies on external partnerships. For the production and distribution of printed books, mdwPress cooperates with transcript.
About this Volume
This anthology gathers contributions based on keynotes and conference papers presented at isaScience 2018, August 10–14, in Reichenau/Rax, Austria. The editors invited selected presenters as well as additional authors whose research matches the book’s thematic focus to submit chapters that were subject to two written assessments based on a standardized form, following a regular doubleblind peer review process. In total, eighteen independent invited reviewers were involved. The mdwPress coordination and the editors supervised the review process. The mdwPress academic board was not involved, since it was only installed at the end of this quality assurance process.
