Bruno-Walter-Lesesaal, mdw-Bibliothek, Anton-von-Webern-Platz 1
New music confronts us with unfamiliar sounds and thus forces us to question our relationship to the world. It is unsettling and therefore always political, according to the common thesis. Using the example of Helmut Lachenmann and “critical composing”, Lena Dražic undertakes a discourse analysis that gets to the bottom of the political promises of new music.
After a presentation of the book, the resulting questions will be discussed in a round table discussion with the following guests: Monika Voithofer, musicologist (University of Vienna), Andreas Holzer, musicologist (mdw), Joanna Wozny, composer (kug). Moderation: Tasos Zembylas, philosopher (mdw)
Lena Dražić completed her doctorate in 2021 at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she worked as a predoctoral assistant, project collaborator, and lecturer. In 2023, she was a research fellow at the International Research Center for Cultural Studies Linz│Vienna. Her current research project on the attribution of meaning to South Slavic pop-folk was funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences and the City of Vienna.
