The Collegium musicum of the mdw-University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna is a chamber music association of students, teachers and alumni. It stems from the stylistics course at the faculty for historical music practice which has been in existence since 2004 and was led by Ingomar Rainer. Its aim is – among other things – to play appropriate music on the baroque instruments owned by the university in a technically as well as stylistically adequate way.
The ensemble plays in different formations on historical and modern instruments, on various occations. Previous performances include opera productions in the Schönbrunn palace theatre and original programs in the new halls of the Viennese Musikverein, in Saint Stephens Cathedral or in the Palais Liechtenstein.
