The Project
Learn more about the webtool’s development
Primarily addressing teachers but also students, „Tricky Moments“ is a webtool that intends to encourage and stimulate the development and adoption of competencies in gender and diversity in personal practices of teaching and learning. It presents different angles for reflecting various experiences of teaching and learning and provides ideas to act on in relation to diversity-attuned didactic practices. In doing so, the webtool contributes to a deconstruction of established patterns, powerful cultural attributions, myths and stereotypes.
A product of countless probing motions, thought processes and discussions, the webtool incorporates individual voices alongside diverse viewpoints and experiences from the perspectives of both teachers and students. The different text formats (i.e.: describing and analyzing situations, reporting on experiences, offering practical guidance and/or checklists, defining concepts) testify to this plurality.
The project was launched in 2018 as a central measure in mdw’s diversity strategy. A DiversitätsMaßnahmenTeam für Lehre, Forschung und Weiterbildung (DMT3) [“DiversityPolicyTeam for teaching, research and further education”] was tasked with its implementation by the Vice Rectorate for Organisational Development, Gender & Diversity. Consisting of ten people, the DMT3 devised the webtool between September 2018 and February 2022; its members coming from various areas and from different hierarchical levels in the university. The development process was augmented and critically assisted by the expertise, know-how and experiential knowledge from other members of the mdw as well as from external persons. Contents were collectively compiled by the team following a methodology of steps incorporating elements of reflection, analysis and contextualization.
The webtool „Tricky Moments“ is a provision of mdw’s diversity strategy. Its development was overseen and realized by the Administrative Department of Equality, Gender Studies and Diversity (GGD) and supported by mdw’s Working Group on Equal Opportunities (AKG).
