My Erasmus teaching period at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki

posted by Georg Hamann on November 07, 2023

Dimitris Chandrakis, a professor at the University of Macedonia who studied violin in Vienna with Günter Pichler while I was a student as well, invited me for the second time to his home city of Thessaloniki. My reciprocal invitation to him to visit the mdw in 2020 unfortunately had to be cancelled due to Corona but was rescheduled for November 2023. In Thessaloniki (end of September 2023), I taught about twenty hours, instructing violin and viola students who were outstanding players. At the end of my stay, I had the privilege of playing a concert of chamber music in the university’s concert hall, performing works by Mozart, Dvořák, and Brahms with excellent colleagues from the university.

In many conversations over wonderful meals, I was able to learn a great deal about the university as well as exchange artistic and pedagogical ideas with Dimitris.
