Gertraud Wimmer
Flauto Traverso
The Viennese transverse flute player Gertraud Wimmer strives to express the sensitivity and diverse emotions of the human soul on her instrument, conveying concrete, tangible content through her tones, much like an orator. After studying flute at the Vienna University of Music, she went to Basel on a Swiss Federal Scholarship and studied transverse flute at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. This was followed by postgraduate studies in early music in Barthold Kuijken’s class at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. Since 1996, she has been teaching transverse flute and historical performance practice at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and is a lecturer at international master classes such as the ‘Tagen alter Musik’ (Days of Early Music) in Zell an der Pram. She is a founding member of the Bachconsort Wien and the Accademia dell’Arcadia Wien, flutist with the Teatro Barocco (Bernd Bienert) and has performed in renowned Baroque orchestras under the baton of Jordi Savall, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Trevor Pinnock, Christophe Rousset and Stefan Gottfried.
