André FERREIRA (Inst. 17)

André Ferreira, originally from Leiria (Portugal), began playing the guitar at the age of twelve at Orfeão de Leiria Conservatorio de Artes. He pursued his musical education under the guidance of renowned guitarists, including Margarita Escarpa at Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Vigo, Tilman Hoppstock at Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt, Paolo Pegoraro at the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz, and Ricardo Gallén at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Weimar.

André won several prizes in both national and international competitions and has performed solo concerts across several European countries, such as Austria, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Belgium, Germany, and England. In 2018, he released his debut album titled “Sonatas.”

Driven by a profound interest in early music and inspired by various plucked instruments and playing techniques, André ventured into the world of the lute, which led him to study with David Bergmüller at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln.

Presently, André frequently performs with the Bach Consort Wien under the direction of Rubén Dubrovsky. This has granted him remarkable opportunities to perform at prestigious venues such as Wiener Musikverein, Theater an der Wien, Palau de Música Catalana in Barcelona, and Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid and the honor of sharing the stage with acclaimed musicians including Vivica Genaux, Veronica Cangemi, Anna Prohaska, Xavier Sabata, Terry Wey, Michael Schade, and Mónica Pustilnik.
