The Bachelor’s degree programme in Music Education is a professionally orientated, artistic, academic and pedagogical course of study designed to prepare students for teaching music (ME) at secondary level (general education).
It aims to develop students’ artistic, practical musical, theoretical musical, academic, subject-specific didactic and pedagogical competences at Bachelor’s level.
This is to be developed within the fields of study vocal music and conducting, instrumental music, music theory, musicology, music education, as well as educational science/general educational principles, interdisciplinary tasks and practical school-based study.
The starting point and focal point of the programme is the ongoing clarification and conscious development of the students’ musical and artistic identity.
The Master’s degree programme in Music Education is a professionally qualifying programme combining artistic, academic and pedagogical elements. It qualifies graduates for a fully-fledged career in teaching music at secondary level (general education).
The BA in Music Education is designed as a programme that prepares students for a career in the profession, whilst the MA in Music Education is designed as a highly profession-oriented programme leading to professional qualification. The Master’s programme builds on the artistic, practical musical, music-theoretical, academic, subject-specific didactic and pedagogical skills developed during the BA in Music Education.
The prerequisite is the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or an equivalent degree programme at a recognised post-secondary educational institution.
