Carlos Goikoetxea was born in Spain in 1991. At the age of 11, he played his first solo recital as a pianist and his first concerto as a soloist with orchestra. He made his first appearance abroad in the same year at the Steinway Festival in the Musikhalle Hamburg. Since then he has performed throughout Europe. A versatile musician, he performs on the piano, fortepiano and harpsichord not only as a soloist, but also as a chamber musician, continuo player, Lied accompanist, orchestra and ensemble leader.
As a fortepianist, he regularly plays in collections of original instruments, such as Bad Krozingen Castle (Germany), the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum (Innsbruck), the Commend Foundation (Salzburg) and many more. After several concerts on W. A. Mozart’s original Walter piano in his home in Salzburg, he made his debut at the Mozart Week 2024.
After completing his bachelor’s degree in piano in Salamanca, Goikoetxea studied piano with Imre Rohmann, fortepiano and harpsichord with Wolfgang Brunner and historical performance practice with Reinhard Goebel at the Mozarteum University Salzburg.
He has been a lecturer at the Mozarteum since 2019, where he teaches historical performance practice and early music. In 2021-22 he was also a lecturer for fortepiano at the MUK Vienna.
He has won numerous first prizes in competitions and made recordings for CD, radio, television, film and documentary.
