Katharina Lugmayr studied recorder at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Hans Maria Kneihs and at the Zurich University of the Arts with Matthias Weilenmann as a scholarship recipient of the Swiss Federal Scholarship Commission.
She has performed as a soloist with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Mozarteum Orchestra under Frans Brüggen at Salzburger Festspiele, Wiener Akademie, Concentus Musicus Wien, Cantus Coelln, and the Ensemble Claudiana in the Bach Cantata Cycle at the Vienna Konzerthaus, among others. She is a founding member of the Mikado Ensemble, which won the “International Young Artist’s Presentation – Early Music” in Antwerp in 2004 and has performed regularly at renowned festivals throughout Europe, as well as a member of the Voces Spontane Ensemble, which focuses exclusively on free improvisation.
Since 1998, Katharina Lugmayr has taught at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and at the Vienna Music School. In 2011–12, she was a visiting professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and often works as a juror at competitions and as a guest lecturer at various master classes.
