Historical Trombone Instruments

Bernhard Rainer was born in 1974 in Zell am See, Austria. After completing his schooling in his hometown, he studied trombone at the University of Music in Graz and the University of Music in Vienna. He then continued his studies in London (Royal Academy of Music) and Basel (Schola Cantorum), took private lessons in historical singing and dedicated time to study cornets, recorders and traverse flutes.

In 2018 he obtained his doctorate in musicology with a thesis on instrumentalists of the 16th century.

Bernhard Rainer lectures on historical performance practice at IES Abroad in Vienna and teaches historical trombone and early music theory at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.

In his artistic career he plays with numerous ensembles and orchestras of the international “Originalklang”-scene (original sound) such as Wiener Akademie Clemencic Consort, Concerto Palatino, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Collegium 1704, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Concerto Köln and Freiburger Barockorchester.
