The Bachelor’s degree programme specialising in Instrumental Music Education, is a professionally orientated artistic, academic and pedagogical course designed to prepare students for teaching instrumental music (IU) at secondary level (general education).

It is designed to develop artistic, practical musical, theoretical musical, academic, subject-specific didactic and pedagogical competences at Bachelor’s level.

This is to be developed within the artistic, academic and subject-specific teaching areas, as well as in educational science/general educational theory, cross-disciplinary tasks and practical school-based study.

The starting point and focal point of the degree programme is the ongoing exploration and conscious development of the students’ own musical identities. Students are expected to use the courses on offer to develop an individual musical and artistic profile, which will enable them to prepare themselves as effectively as possible for a career in teaching.

The Master’s degree programme specialising in Instrumental Music Education, is a professionally qualifying programme combining artistic, academic and pedagogical studies. It qualifies graduates for a full-fledged career in teaching instrumental music (IU) at secondary level (general education).

The BA Lehramt (IME) is designed as a programme that prepares students for the profession, whilst the MA Lehramt (IME) is designed as a highly profession-oriented programme leading to professional qualification. The Master’s programme builds on the artistic, practical musical, music-theoretical, academic, subject-specific didactic and pedagogical skills developed during the BA Lehramt (IME).
