INSTRUMENT MAKING | A Viennese harpsichord from the second half of the 17th century
An organological approach
Alfons Huber/Albrecht Czernin on behalf of the mdw
The aim of the project is to build a hypothetical harpsichord of the sort that might have been used at the Viennese court or in one of the leading musical ensembles of the Austrian aristocracy during the second half of the 17th century.
As no signed and dated instrument from this period has survived that would be suitable for reproduction, the intended model can only be approached from various perspectives. In doing so, individual characteristic parameters – found in various instruments, some earlier and some contemporary – are to be scientifically substantiated, selected in accordance with the current state of research, and brought together in a reconstruction.
