Antonio Caldara – from Venice to Vienna

The composer and cellist Antonio Caldara, born in Venice in 1670, spent much of his life in Vienna working for Emperor Charles VI. His body of work is vast and, to this day, only a small part of it has been studied or even performed on concert stages.
It is therefore all the more worthwhile to keep taking stock of the latest research on Caldara, to devote oneself to his music and to immerse oneself in the eventful life of this influential figure in the Viennese opera scene of his time.
From 7 to 11 November, we are organising a symposium featuring academic lectures, concerts featuring the music of Antonio Caldara, and a baroque cello masterclass – the instrument closest to Caldara’s own heart.
