OBOEBAND | Hautboisten Meeting 2023

From November 15–17, 2023, the KUG will host a gathering of all classes specializing in historical oboe and bassoon instruments from Austria’s music universities. The focus will be on oboe ensemble music from Germany between the late 17th and late 18th centuries. The program will explore the scholarly, musical, and social significance of this music, as well as provide practical engagement with the music of oboe ensembles from this period.
We are pleased to welcome Samantha Owens (New Zealand) as a special guest and scholarly patron, who will offer lectures and seminars for students. Together, the students will prepare works by Kusser, Erlebach, Pez, Fischer, and their contemporaries, which will be presented in the form of concerts as the culmination of the project.

This gathering enables students to perform oboe ensemble music in larger ensembles than would be possible at any single university and to engage personally with one of the leading specialists and scholars in this field. The social aspect — networking among students within the Austrian university landscape — is a stated goal of the event.

To conclude the workshop at the KUG, concerts will take place in Graz, Vienna, Linz, and Salzburg.
In Vienna, the program will be performed on November 18, 2023.
