Effective self-management (for musicians)
How do I achieve my musical goals? What strategies and tools can help me do this? How can I promote my own musical projects - even without a booking agency or external management?
At the career picnic, you can expect input on topics such as concert acquisition, audience development, networking and promotion as well as practical techniques for self-management: How can I set myself realistic goals and pursue them consistently? How can I find suitable performance opportunities for my own project? How can I present my project online and offline and gain an audience for it?
Prerequisite/preparation: You have your own musical project that you would like to take forward. As preparation, you can already think about your goals for this project and bring along any existing materials for your project (e.g. press release, photos, audio samples).
Objectives
- To work out the strengths/unique selling points of your own musical projects
- Getting to know techniques for planning, time management, management of your own projects
- Create your own contact database
- Developing/improving press materials
- Develop promotion ideas
Course lecturer Martin Listabarth
Pianist Martin Listabarth is now at home with his music at jazz festivals and concerts all over the world - in 2024 his tour took him from Baku to New York. His music is deeply rooted in jazz, but also moves between classical and pop. He draws inspiration for his compositions from landscapes and cities, people and personal encounters. His two solo albums “Short Stories” and “Dedicated”, as well as his current trio album “Postcards”, have not only won over national media (ORF, Ö1, Die Presse, Der Standard), but have also attracted international attention. In 2022, he received a nomination for the German Record Critics' Award.
Career Picnic
The Career Picnic is a new, informal format that promotes the exchange of knowledge between students and successful mdw graduates. In a relaxed atmosphere, participants gain valuable insights into the everyday professional lives of artists and learn more about career opportunities in the arts and culture sector. The exchange at eye level makes it possible to share practical tips and personal experiences directly and to ask questions.
