Michael Schneider sees himself as a musician in the broadest sense:

After studying with Günther Höller and Walter v. Hauwe and winning a prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 1978, he has performed worldwide as a soloist on the recorder and transverse flute, as well as with his chamber music ensemble, CAMERATA KÖLN.

As the music director of his Baroque orchestra, La Stagione Frankfurt, and as a guest conductor of other orchestras, he performs operas, oratorios, and symphonic works from the Baroque, Early Classical, and Classical periods.

Michael Schneider served as a professor from 1980 to 1983 at the HdK (now UdK) in Berlin and from 1983 to 2019 at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts, where, in addition to teaching his recorder class, he established and directed the Institute for “Historical Performance Practice,” which offered its own master’s program.

More than 100 CD recordings spanning all the aforementioned genres (including nearly the entire Baroque repertoire for recorder) attest to his artistic work.

In 2000, Michael Schneider was awarded the “Telemann Prize” by the City of Magdeburg for his contributions to the composer’s work.
