Project grant of Career Center - Open Call 2026


The mdw Career Center awards grants to support artistic projects.

Eligible to apply are regular students of the mdw as well as graduates who graduated less than 5 years ago at the time of application.
The fields of study concerned are:

Composition and Music Theory, Sound Engineering, Conducting, all instrumental studies, Church Music, Chamber Music, all music education programmes, Music and Movement Education/Rhythmics, Historical Performance Practice, New Music Ensemble, Contemporary Arts Practice, Music in Society, Singing, Musical Drama, Lied, Oratorio and Concert, Vocal Performance, Musical Theatre Direction, Acting and Acting Direction, as well as all courses of study in the field of Film and Television. 

Funding is available for artistic projects related to current or completed studies at the mdw. The focus is on new concert formats and interdisciplinary or cross-art-form projects, as well as collaborative projects involving different fields of study. For projects involving mixed ensembles, at least 50% of the participants must be students or graduates of the mdw who graduated no more than five years ago.

 

The projects can be designed for both a face-to-face and a virtual performance.

CD productions and projects to be completed as part of the curriculum are not eligible for funding.

The maximum funding amount is € 1,000 per project. The applicant can only receive the maximum sum of € 1,000 once. If an application is submitted in a subsequent year, a lower amount may be awarded. Multiple awards to different members of the same ensemble are not permitted.
 

Applications must be submitted exclusively in electronic form to the mdw Career Center (careercenter@mdw.ac.at) by 30.09.2026.
 

The following files must be attached (all in pdf format)

  • Concept with project description, artistic goals and a timetable for realization. Length: maximum 2 DIN A4 pages in total
  • tabular calculation of the planned project budget (e.g. Excel)
  • Biography of the applicant (1 DIN A4 page)
  •  Details of any other supporters and all persons involved in the project with names, function in the project and, if applicable, matriculation number and field of study at the mdw

The decision on the award and the amount of funding is made by a committee under the direction of the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs.

There is no legal entitlement to the awarding of project scholarships.
 

After receiving the project grant:

  • The scholarship holders receive a mandatory coaching appointment at the Career Center to set goals, implement and document their funded project
  • Independent implementation of the project
  • Independent documentation of the project in a form chosen by the scholarship holder for a maximum of 2 years after receiving the project scholarship
  • Scholarship holders receive a further mandatory coaching appointment at the Career Center to reflect on the project and project documentation
  • Publication of the project documentation on the Career Center website
     

mdw Artist Portraits 2027

In 2027, 6 high-quality artist portraits mdw Artist Portraits will be produced by the Career Center with advanced mdw students. A selection procedure is planned to determine the artists. The artistic disciplines rotate every year.


For the year 2027, artists from the following disciplines will be selected:
 

  • Conducting (choral or orchestral conducting)
  • Contemporary Arts Practice
  • Voice (Classical): voice type Countertenor or Tenor
  • Percussion (instrumental studies and/or Music Education (IGP)) 
  • Viola (instrumental studies and/or Music Education (IGP))

Call for Applications: 2026 Dieter W. Bäuerle Award for Music


The Dieter W. Bäuerle – Stiftung für Wissenschaft und Kunst is calling for applications for the 2026 Dieter W. Bäuerle Award for MusicThe prize is awarded to young musicians and/or researchers in music up to ten years after completing their studies. The award is intended to honor individuals who, with the highest musical qualifications, also develop new interdisciplinary potential (e.g. philological, editorial, in cultural communication or in the field of artistic research). The prize money amounts to 10.000,00 Euros.
