In this Best of concert, particularly outstanding talents from the mdw will present themselves:
David Volkmer is a prizewinner of the Forum Gitarre Wien competition and the Enrico Mercatali Competition. He is successful in both classical and popular music. His program is correspondingly diverse, ranging from the 19th to the 21st century and also including percussion.
The Fusion Trio presents a surprisingly groovy work by Johannes Maria Staud. ‘Now for Something Different’ was written during the pandemic and is a swinging, cheerful piece. The musicians of the trio are active as soloists, in chamber music and with the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Vereinigte Bühnen Wien and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Trombonist Jonathan Helm was inspired to write his own composition for his instrument during a trip to Bosnia: “Pleninarenje” describes the beautiful landscape, but also the still-present traces of the Balkan war. A very personal atmospheric picture.
Wakana Kimura has already won numerous violin competitions, including the ‘Laszlo Spezzaferri’ and ‘Danubia Talents’ music competitions. The jazzy, virtuoso sonata by Nilolai Kapustin gives her the opportunity to showcase all her strengths.
A cooperation of mdw and the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna.
The concert will be followed by a discussion “A glass with David Volkmer - How do we want to live together?” in the Gläserner Saal. It will be moderated by Miriam Unger.
